For the past nine years I have been attending left-wing political demonstrations in and around my adopted hometown of London. I feel pulled inexorably to these events because for me they are the place at which current affairs and art converge in a kind of public performance.
I seek answers: Why are these people demonstrating? …What do they hope to achieve? …Are these people heroic, or is it all in vain? …What effect does my presence have?
This project features a variety of photographic techniques and styles, and is ongoing. I have shifted gradually away from black and white pictures at the centre of the event, capturing a visceral, personal experience, to a colour panoramic view that attempts to show the broader context of the event.
